Funambol is seeking candidates for the position of Build and Release Engineer. The Build and Release Engineer is corporate level resource responsible for managing the entire build and release process on all projects and ensuring a high quality build delivery service to the production teams. S/He will manage, mentor and work collaboratively with project resources and department technical resources to resolve issues and improve the process. S/He will monitor and track the process for efficiency and effectiveness. At a corporate level resource s/he will ensure best practices are shared across all projects. -- Education and Experience - * Various degrees of education and experience will be considered provided the applicant's experience demonstrates the following requirements: * Bachelor of Computer Science or Engineering degree * 1 or more years experience in automated build systems development and maintenance using tools such as CVS, SVN, Ant, Maven, ... * Experience developing commercial software * Experience developing open source software * Demonstrated leadership and implementation of company-wide initiatives, ideally in release management processes * Experience with implementing and managing release mgmt for multiple titles on multiple concurrent platforms - Responsibilities - * Create and maintain a Build and Release Roadmap * Lead the design, development, rollout and maintenance of a unified build system * Identify, isolate and help resolve issues in the build / release process * Manage and mentor the build teams on each of the projects * Define, master and mentor the use of code sharing best practices (i.e. Version control best practices) * Ensure that builds are delivered in a timely manner and meet the customer's requirements * Help create and improve build processes (best practices - tools and techniques) * Risk planning (avoid issues, contingency plans and early detection of issues) and cost management (reduced downtime and testing costs, automation) * Manage all aspects of the build processes including CIS, Nightly, Emergency and Archived Builds Develop and maintain build and release knowledge base * Develop and deploy a Build and Release Notification system Work with the Technical Director, architects, and QA Director to review and augment build and release roadmap * Work with the Technical Director, architects, and QA director to design best practices and integrate a centralized build and release repository Skills/Abilities/Knowledge/Personal Suitability * Excellent understanding of the build and release management (tools and techniques) * Excellent skills in using and administering CVS and SVN * Excellent skills in using automatic building systems such as Ant and Maven * Solid understanding of the software development process, in particular agile development processes * Solid understanding of Open Source software development * Good understanding of software Quality Assurance practices * ReliablepProgramming knowledge (OOP, C++, Java, Automation scripting) * Highly focused on continuous improvement * Able to work in a remoted team -- Aditional information - This position is being offered for the Pavia ofiice, Italy.
